Last Week I got a call from a friend who said said his friend had passed away and they needed help placing his dogs.  Little did we know how malnourished these dogs were.  We found them  malnourished with no food and water.  The person who was supposed to be taking care of them while Father John was in the  hospital did not do a thing to look after them.  We were able to get all eight out of the house – Goldie, Kate, Chewie, Sebaastian, Daisy,Penelope,  Tink and Bella.  All need vet care, love, more love and need to be spayed, neutered,  and micro chipped.  Most have severe ear infections and skin infections.  So… if you the means, please DONATE toward their vet care.

We know in these financial times everyone is a little more conscious of what they are spending. Unfortunately, because of this, the number of animals needing rescue has RISEN and the donations have gotten SMALLER. I’m sure you are tired of people asking for donations. Our account is at zero and everyday we worry. Why you ask?
Bear – the sweet, senior golden mix needs meds and therapy for his hips. He was left to die at animal control when his owner passed away.
Samm – needs heart worm treatment due to the fact that he was tied up in the backyard and told to “Attack.” He was exposed to everything and is now being treated and getting better.
Zeus – Mastiff with allergies to everything! He was rescued by an animal hospital that then turned their back on him and said “he wasn’t their problem anymore.” Zeus requires allergy shots and special food.
Diesel – poor little dachshund who spent his first 6 years in a wire cage in a puppy mill. His teeth and gums were rotting away from poor nutrition and trying to eat through the cage. He had surgery to remove most of his teeth. He is much happier now.
Hershey – a happy, silly puppy who was left at a homeless camp with a bag of dog food. the food was stolen. He was just taken to the vet for bloodwork, check up, all his shots, neutering and micro chipping.

So you see, the funds go to whatever our animals need. So if you can give $1, $5, $20… it all adds up.

Thanks so much!!

Hershey was tied to a tree and left there by his family that had been evicted and become homeless. Someone had stolen his dog food. Through out all of this Hershey never stops wagging his tail and thinks everyday is a party just for him!

Hi all!
Candy Cane – A Rhodesian Ridgeback mix puppy was rescued from an abandoned house. She now is in need of an operation common in ridgebacks, to remove 2 cysts at the base of her neck. Its going to cost about $3000. Please go to www.betterlifepets.com to donate and help us get her this operation so Candy Cane can live a happy healthy life!

BEN HAS BEEN FOUND!!!! THANK YOU!

Please help us find Ben. He went to his new home only two days ago and ran out the front door in the Summperport neighborhood in Windermere, FL. His Homeagain ID chip is #985121005526033.
PLEASE, if you live in that area, help us look for him. He is confused and doesn’t know his surroundings! He is only 25 pounds. You can reach us at rdtikador@gmail.com or jchase74@aol.com

UPDATE: Sweet Zoey has a foster home for the next month! Thank you
Shavers and Sarah for taking her in!

This is sweet Zoey! Zoey was found with one of her pups, looking for shelter in a rain storm. Zoey is about 2 years old and weighs about 60 pounds.
Zoey is a SWEETHEART! She gets along with all of her foster siblings (doggies yes, kitties NO!) Zoey is definitely the mom in the group. She is always making sure she has an eye on everyone, including her foster mom.
Zoey deserves the best home with people who love her and will never lose sight of her. Her smile alone, lights up a room.

Zoey is spayed, house trained, crate trained, micro chipped, up to date on shots and currently on flea and heart worm preventative.

Please helps us find a foster!! She has nowhere to go and really needs a family to help her.

UPDATE: 10/25/09
YAY!! Sebastian went to his foster home today. His new foster, Angela seems like the perfect match for laid-back Sebastian!
We are so happy!

Daphne is my new foster and she is super sweet. She was found in the woods scared, sick and hungry. She was then kept in a small cage at a vets office for 3 months without much attention. We are sure she was abused, neglected and abandoned. Just like the majority of the pets that come into our rescue.

It has only been two weeks and she is doing so well already. She loves and learns from other dogs, so going to a home with another dog is a must. She is also great with our cats. She loves to cuddle but still gets frightened if you raise your voice or touch her back-end. She does have a submissive peeing problem, but is doing so much better. Obviously from memories of abuse. Poor girl. But she’s smart and wants to please.
Most know that I love me a hound dog. Even though she rarely barks, it’s a perfect Beagle bark. So funny! She loves to play with toys now too. It’s great to see.
I know she has never been taught any basic commands but I just taught her to sit and it took 2 minutes. I’m also working on her waiting at the door. She’s so good!
She deserves a great home! She’s one special dog.

We received a phone call last week from the Vero Beach Humane Society saying they had found one of our dogs, Ollie (yet another WONDERFUL reason for micro chips!). Ollie is a wonderful, calm, older, black labrador. We contacted the owner and heard nothing back. After seven excruciating days we got him back – today! He was found swimming a canal. How he survived we don’t know but he is still his Jolly ole self. He has some severe ear/bacterial infections but we will get that sorted out. For everything Ollie has been through, he still smiles and wags his tail. We will give you an update on how he is doing. Today was his first day back.

UPDATE: Ollie’s ear infections are getting better. I am still in awe at how wonderful he is. I just want to wrap him up in a blanket and keep him safe for ever and ever. Finally heard from the prior owners and he somehow got out and ran away over a month ago. They never told us this happened. We thought he saw safe and happy. Note to adopters: please contact your rescue when your animal goes missing. The good rescues will go the ends of the earth to make sure the animals they have placed will be found.

I’m sad. I’m sad that Abby has not been adopted. She has lived outside for 7 years, she has been on our website for 2 years and she has not had one application. Why? She’s older and a tabby. Everybody wants a cute little Siamese kitten but nobody wants Abby. She deserves to be inside. She deserves to have a comfy couch to curl up on and to be pet until she purrs (which she does loudly). She must be tired of finding shelter from the rain and eating food off the ground. She is healthy and sweet as can be. Sometimes people forget that cats live for 20 years. She has a long life ahead of her. Won’t someone fill out an application today?

Update: A wonderful couple did fill out an application within a week of this blog and she is in now in her new home!
